Founded by my late father Headley Reeves back in 1978, the business originated as a fireplace company called “The Chimney Piece”. A highly-skilled craftsman, he was very passionate about quality and design. His focus was predominantly bespoke fireplaces which entailed the design, manufacturing, and installation to our retail clients.
The business moved from Hemel Hempstead to Stewkley in 1983 and I joined my father and my brother, Duncan, in 1991.
After Headley died in 1998 we carried on the business and were joined by younger brother David, now installations manager, four years later.
The company name changed to Stewkley Stone in 2002, to reflect the diversity of our products, and moved to a larger 6,000 sq ft premises with a combined factory and showroom.
Today Stewkley Stone is one of the UK’s leading stonemasons in the design, manufacture and installation of luxury stone interiors for both residential and commercial projects, and still a family-run business now proudly providing three generations of service.
We continue to invest in state-of-the-art machinery, IT and personal staff, and collectively we have over 150 years of experience in the stone industry with four members of our family on the team.
Like many pioneers, my father’s approach to stone was to be unique and to be different. He wanted to stand out by standing for something special. And for over thirty six years our family has done just that – crafting quality stone interiors for clients throughout the country.
My father’s approach, his passion, and his values remain deeply embedded into Stewkley Stone’s work ethic today.
